A laparoscopy is a type of surgical procedure that can often be performed in place of traditional, open incision surgeries. Laparoscopies are minimally invasive and require only a small incision to be made.
Through the incision, Dr. Ayalon can insert a thin tube with a tiny camera mounted on the end. This camera allows Dr. Ayalon to see into the abdomen where he can view the pelvic organs without larger, open incisions.
Laparoscopy procedures can be used to treat endometriosis, remove fibroids and ovarian cysts, perform hysterectomies, remove ectopic pregnancies in the fallopian tubes, perform permanent sterilizations, and evaluate the conditions of fallopian tubes.
Recovery time after laparoscopic surgery is faster than many other forms of surgery. In most cases, you can return to your regular activities after a day or two of the surgery. More complex procedures may require you to rest for a longer period of time. Dr. Ayalon will ensure you know how much recovery time you’ll need before returning to work.
